1. Information We Collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. This is used solely to identify you within ClassMate AI and to save your generated content.

We also collect the content you generate using our tools (lesson plans, quizzes, rubrics, etc.) and store it so you can access it later from your saved items.

When you contact our support team, we collect your email address and the contents of your message to respond to your inquiry.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to:

Provide and maintain the ClassMate AI service
Save your generated content for future access
Process payments and manage your subscription
Send occasional service-related communications
Improve our AI tools based on aggregate usage patterns
Respond to your support requests

2.1 AI Training & Data Usage

We do not use your content to train AI models. The lesson plans, quizzes, rubrics, and other content you generate using ClassMate AI are yours. We do not feed your generated content back into DeepSeek or any other AI model for training or improvement purposes. DeepSeek's API data usage policy states that API calls are not used to train or improve their models. (DeepSeek API Documentation)

We do not sell your data. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information or generated content with third parties for advertising, marketing, or data brokering purposes. The only third parties that process your data are essential service providers listed in Section 6, and they are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.

Data Processing Agreement (DPA): If your school or district requires a signed Data Processing Agreement for compliance purposes, please contact us at support@classmateai.net. We are happy to review and sign DPAs with educational institutions.

3. Cookies & Tracking

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. This helps us improve the service. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data such as pages visited, time spent, and browser type.

You can choose to accept or decline analytics cookies when you first visit our site via our Cookie Consent banner. You may also disable Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Your Rights (CCPA & California Privacy)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you the following rights:

Right to Know: You may request details about the personal information we collect, use, and share.
Right to Delete: You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell your personal information. If this changes, we will update this policy and provide a clear opt-out mechanism.
Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and generated content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or request data deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or payment processing purposes.

Anonymous usage data (Google Analytics) is retained for 26 months in accordance with Google's data retention policy.

6. Third-Party Services

We share your data only with essential service providers:

Google (OAuth login & Google Analytics) — authentication and analytics
Creem.io — payment processing
DeepSeek — AI content generation
Cloudflare — hosting and CDN

Each provider is contractually obligated to keep your data confidential and secure. We do not sell your personal information to any third party.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
Secure token-based authentication (JWT)
Strict access controls to our infrastructure
Regular security reviews of our codebase

While no system is 100% secure, we are committed to protecting your information. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to support@classmateai.net.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

ClassMate AI is designed for use by educators and educational professionals. The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), if you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately. We will delete such information promptly.

10. International Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

Right to Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").

7.5. Student Data & FERPA Compliance

ClassMate AI is designed for use by teachers. You are the data controller under FERPA. We act solely as a data processor.

No student names are stored on our servers. Student information entered during generation is sent to the AI model solely for content creation and is not retained. We do not train AI models on your data. We do not sell or share student information.

7.6. COPPA & Children's Privacy

ClassMate AI is a teacher-facing tool. No student login, no direct child interface. Teachers enter student information solely for educational content generation. By using our tools, you confirm appropriate consent per your school policy.

7.7. Data Export & Anonymization

When you export content, review and redact sensitive information before sharing. We recommend using first names or pseudonyms throughout the platform.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If we make material changes, we will notify users via email or through the service.
